Which is why I find the AI witch hunts so stupid. Not everyone on Substack is trying to be a great writer. People are here for different reasons, and not everyone has hours to spend agonizing over every sentence.
Well, shit, don’t know about you, but I’m still waiting on my first majestic burst of inspiration! I can write a clean 1500 words at a gallop, but I have to have had a good think about the structure, etc. for that to happen.
I gave up on Grammarly years ago when I downloaded the app and started giving me shitty recommendations on EVERYTHING. I did use the Hemingway app extensively for a few years though. Finding GPT very useful for editing feedback these days, despite having to remind it to stop fellating me now and then.
Funny, I still mostly think of the writing I do as not really writing; it’s content in the context of marketing. I mean, of course it’s writing, but it’s more functional than what I think most folks think of when they think “writing.”
Regardless, let’s hoist a hopeful glass and toast to the rapid end of these bullshit AI witch hunts.
And as a former editor, my stance on rewriting should be an obvious one!

We do have an amazing ability to make things more complicated than they need to me. I know I do sometimes.
That’s very relatable sometimes the simplest ideas are the ones we make hardest for ourselves.
