7. Is the most telling. The willingness to both hear and say “I don’t know” is so huge.

Thanks, Derek. I instinctively distrust anyone who cannot say those three words together in a sentence.

I almost added another item to the list "but will extend that with -- but I can find out" because often you can.

Those are almost two separate tiers:

Level 1 - they can say "I don't know." This is good.

Level 2 - they can say "I don't know, but I can find out." This is better.

But someone who can't do either is someone to avoid.

Or Level 3 - I know how to do that, but I'm only OK at it and a) that's going to be good enough for what we need or b) we need someone who can do better than I can.
