Thanks, Mike. Have a hard time believing you were worried about publishing! Funny, kinda hit me when I saw this comment last night that the reason I haven't published any PDFs is fear that they'll be obvious, won't sell, will look desperate, blah blah blah. So, to hell with that, just gave myself a real, 10 day deadline to create and publish one (I've had a workable list for about 3 months now).
It's crazy how fear can hold us captive. Just think of how many businesses have never taken that leap because they’re too busy worrying about what others might think. - If you’ve got knowledge and stories that can genuinely help people, don't let fear be the villain in your business story.
It's usually #1. Most businesses feels like writing to their audience is bothering them. So, they either stick to sparodic posting on hinding behind ads. And Bryant is I may add: the fear of being obvious is another reason. I sat down and wrote a post a few days ago only to realized is 89% identical of what a wrote the week prior. For a seconds I thought I'm being too obvious saying just one thing over and over. Then it hits me, again, being obvious and repeating points it's how we become recognizable.
I struggle with the being obvious and repetitive too, but slowly overcoming that in my work. I think part of the struggle is boredom -- we get tired of saying it before it connects with anyone.
It's amazing how diffident many people are about reaching out to folks who have either already shown an interest in what they do or already bought something from them.
It's great to respect time and attention, but not to the point you're hurting your ability to stay in business.
Thanks Bryant for this timely post. If I were to add a fifth fear, it would be "what if I'm writing too much?" This is something that I often worry about. Am I writing too much content for my readers? But then I realised that if people don't want that much content they can just leave, and the people that do want that content will stay. Through that we can continue to build a community that is mutually beneficial. Thanks again for this great post. 🙏
Appreciate the kind words and that you found this helpful. I think that fear of "too much" is wrapped up in "not wanting to bother people". That said, yeah, I think I could use that one as the starter for a "4MORE fears" type post. lol.
I was having this conversation with a client the other day -- don't assume your "too much" is your audience's "too much." You just don't know until you do hit the "no mas" tipping point.
Good piece, Bryant. Wished I could have read it when I was starting out.

I understand the feeling, Bryant. I really do. I hope you'll let me know when the first PDF goes public.
